Two new high school programs aid kids in finding path to futures.
Two new programs are making their debut this fall at Corsicana High School, both geared towards the middle-of-the-road kids, the ones who might get into college, but might not even graduate high school.
The first, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), is a national program that is spreading across the country because it can claim proven results in improving kids’ grades, graduation rates and advancement to college.

STAR mentoring program prepares for a new year.
As the beginning of school draws near, a group of students, parents and role models from the community met to get acquainted, mingle, and plan for the next year.
The STAR (Success Through Active Role Modeling) program was initiated at Corsicana High School last school year, in conjunction with the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program.

For the past year and a half, I have had the privilege of working with an up and coming group in Corsicana. STAR or Success Through Active Role Modeling, was created by a group of Navarro County businessmen with the intent to recruit and train role models to support local secondary students.
